Lamington is a jewel in the crown of bushwalking destinations in south-east Queensland. It contains over 160 km of graded walking paths and a similar distance of walking trails that lead to lookouts waterfalls and some of Queensland's most significant wilderness.
Track Maps & Guides
Lamington National Park Walking Track Maps are available from O'Reilly's Mountain Gift Shop or O'Reilly's Rainforest Retreat. These maps provide excellent guides to the walks of Lamington National Park.
Effects of the Weather
When the south-east wind blows, shower activity increases as you approach the crest of the McPherson Range and decreases to the north of O'Reilly's. The accompanying low cloud blocks out the view on top of the range making the border walks less attractive under these conditions. The higher elevation here means lower temperatures, so take something warm to wear. Summer rains bring leeches. It is wise to take some repellent with you.
Some Rules to Follow
National Parks are attracting an increasing number of people each year and the park's continued well being is dependant on the goodwill of the people who visit them.
Do not walk alone and before leaving you must advise a responsible person of your destination and expected time of return.
It is important to:
- Remove litter from the park.
- Not short cut tracks.
- Take a map with you and check the signs at intersections.
- Wait and make sure that your entire group take the correct track.
- Notify someone of your destination before leaving.
- Be aware that it gets dark early in the rainforest so check sunset times before departure and allow enough daylight time
- If you are in doubt about track conditions, creek crossings after rain or directions please ask.
- Please note O'Reilly's is not referred to any any national park signage, instead O'Reilly's is referred to as Green Mountains
Track Entrances
- Main Border Track: opposite the front entrance of the guesthouse.
- Moran's Falls, Python Rock Track: 1 km from O'Reilly's back along the main road.
