Effects of the Weather

When the south-east wind blows, shower activity increases as you approach the crest of the McPherson Range and decreases to the north of O'Reilly's. The accompanying low cloud blocks out the view on top of the range making the border walks less attractive under these conditions. The higher elevation here means lower temperatures, so take something warm to wear. Summer rains bring leeches. It is wise to take some repellent with you.

Gold Coast Hinterland Great Walk

In 2008 the 23km Border Track linking O'Reilly's and Binna Burra was extended towards Springbrook, creating the iconic 'Gold Coast Hinterland Great Walk'. The 'Great Walk' itself takes around three days to complete, however sections of the walk, such as the O'Reilly's - Binna Burra section along the Border Track, can be completed in 6 - 7 hours.

This walk is probably the most famous walk in the park, boasting great views into northern NSW and pristine rainforest including Antarctic Beech.
