O'Reilly's Scenic Rim Gran Fondo

Join Triple World Superbike Champion, Troy Bayliss and some of the sport’s elite such as Triple Tour de France green jersey winner Robbie McEwen and Olympic triathlete Courtney Atkinson in The O’Reilly’s Scenic Rim Gran Fondo

The O’Reilly’s Scenic Rim Gran Fondo is a 36km race, which is open to amateurs as young as 10 (accompanied by an adult) through to professional competitors. The ride will incorporate the Ducati King and Queen of the Mountain, which includes prizes for riders who are the fastest to complete the 900m ascent to O’Reilly’s Summit.

Professional cyclists are also catered for, with the 128km Allenview Turf Troy Bayliss Invitational which is Open to 'Mens A' and 'Masters A' riders only.

'Weekend Mountain Experience' Photography Workshop

7 - 9 June, 2013

Trekabout Photography Workshops is presenting a ‘Weekend Mountain Experience’ Photography Workshop. Based at O'Reilly's Rainforest Retreat, in the beautiful Lamington National Park, the ‘Weekend Mountain Experience’ is an amazing workshop not to be missed!

The weekend covers expert tuition on landscape, macro and bird photography as well as audio-visual presentations, Lightroom tuition, image critique and much more. Subjects covered will include composition, lighting, camera-settings, focal points and much more. Michael Snedic and Mark Rayner, both professional photographers and experienced tutors, make sure all workshop participants receive some one-on-one time during the weekend, to work with your own personal photographic skill levels, needs and interests.

Stinson Walks

All walks depart early on the chosen Saturday morning and arrive back Saturday evening.

Retrace Bernard O'Reilly's famous journey through mountainous rainforest terrain as he searched for the survivors of the ill-fated Stinson plane crash 75 years ago. Experience one of Australia's iconic walks on this rugged yet rewarding journey.

Enjoy presentations and night viewings hosted by our expert leader, Noeleen Lowndes. Noeleen is NASA’s representative for JPL’s Saturn Observation Campaign.

Guest speaker Noeleen Lowndes is Vice-President of the Southern Astronomical Society on the Gold Coast and NASA’s representative for the Saturn Observation Campaign that is involved with the Cassini-Huygens mission to Saturn.

Darran Leal: Ultimate Rainforest Photo Workshop

10-13 October, 2013

This famous workshop suits photographers of any level, to any interest. Covering theory and offering fantastic practical shoots. Information is offered in a very simple easy to understand form, thus allowing you to try new techniques on the spot.

Hosted by Darran Leal who is a multi-award winning photographer who is also one of the few full-time professional photo guides in the world. He has tutored over 500 workshops across many continents including Africa, South America and Antarctica amongst others. On this Photo Retreat Darran is accompanied by Mark Galer who is a senior lecturer on the BA Photography course at RMIT University Melbourne and has published 17 photogrpahy titles for the international publisher Focal Press . Forest Weekend

1 - 3 November, 2013

Join our visiting experts for an insight into the complex world of the Rainforest. Learn about Lamington's part in the 'Gondwana Rainforests of Australia' World Heritage site and the fascinating features that warrant its inclusion. In the past Forest Weekend guests have joined the likes of Bill McDonald (Queensland Herbarium) to discover the different make-up of trees and leaves within the forest. This years guest speakers combined with legendary O'Reilly's such as Big Pete O'Reilly are sure to provide a insight into the unique flora of the Lamington National Park region. Often combined with the following weeks 'Bird Week' this weekend is suited to all those interested in the flora of the region from novice botanists, students or those that just enjoy being involved and learning about the natural environment.

36th Annual Bird Week

3 - 10 November, 2013

O'Reilly's is excited to announce its 36th Annual Bird Week . This event has become Australia's leading birding event. The 2012 event welcomed Dr Jon Coleman as our guest speaker, as well as local guides Tim O'Reilly, Glen Threlfo, Ian Gynther, Bill McDonald and Duncan Fowler.

The program offers ample opportunities to visit all the hot spots and uncover the special birds of Lamington National Park. It really is a bird enthusiast's dream.

As we are anticipating 2013 to be even more successful. Please note, registration fee do apply and the Bird Week 2013 program schedule and guest speakers are subject to change.
