Stinson Walks

13th - 15th July 2012

All walks depart early on the chosen Saturday morning and arrive back Saturday evening.

Retrace Bernard O'Reilly's famous journey through mountainous rainforest terrain as he searched for the survivors of the ill-fated Stinson plane crash 75 years ago. Experience one of Australia's iconic walks on this rugged yet rewarding journey.

Stargazers Weekend

Featuring the Magnificent Ringed Planet Saturn

 25th and 26th August 2012

Free from the light pollution below, O’Reilly’s offers the perfect location for amateur astronomers to view our universe, given the clear nights that winter brings. Enjoy presentations and night viewings hosted by our expert leader, Noeleen Lowndes.  Noeleen is NASA’s representative for JPL’s Saturn Observation Campaign.

Guest speaker Noeleen Lowndes is President of the Southern Astronomical Society on the Gold Coast and NASA’s representative for the Saturn Observation Campaign that is involved with the Cassini-Huygens mission to Saturn.

35th Annual Forest Weekend

2nd - 4th November 2012,

In November 2012, guests were invited to join Bill McDonald (Queensland Herbarium) discovered the different make-up of trees and leaves within the forest. Registration fee will apply.

35th Annual Bird Week

4th - 10th November, 2012

In 2012, O'Reilly's will celebrate the 35th anniversary of Bird Week, and with regular sightings each year of over 200 species it is sure to be a fascinating week.

Bird Week is an internationally acclaimed festival of birds and features key ornithologists and guest lecturers from around Australia. A unique program of activities is offered to ‘birdos’ which includes guided walks, 4WD excursions, lectures, spotlighting, bird counts and audio visual presentations. Registration fee applies.

Wildlife Week

Join us for our new Wildlife Week - it is sure to be an exciting week with lots of tracking, trapping and sneaking up on animals in their natural habitat. Escape to the rainforest and discover another world – the world of pademelons, bandicoots, echidnas, gliders, birds, reptiles and frogs. We cater for everyone from the novice to those interested in researching threatened species.

Trekabout Photography Workshops

  • Dates TBA

Trekabout Photography Workshops offer personalised photographic tuition at O'Reilly's, surrounded by the stunning World Heritage listed Lamington National Park. They offer either one day, weekend or 5 day workshops, mostly 'in-the-field' but also incorporate some digital post-processing and Photoshop tuition, in a classroom setting. Michael Snedic and Mark Rayner have accrued many years of experience between them and are widely published. They are both fully accredited AIPP (Australian Institute of Professional Photographers) who are passionate about their craft, good communicators and experienced tutors. With group numbers limited and two tutors at every workshop, you will be guaranteed some personalised tutoring as well as plenty of group sessions.
