Crush: News from Canungra Valley Vineyards

The 2006 vintage of Viola Reserve Cabernet was launched in April and was well received by our members. The Viola has a deep red colour with an intense purple rim, and the aromas of ripe blackberry and boysenberry are offset by a hint of chocolate mocha. It has firm tannins, balanced acidity and finishes with a smooth vanilla flavour. The Viola is the perfect choice to match with a hearty winter meal or to accompany a cheese platter on a long, relaxing afternoon. However, this is a limited quantity vintage and at current sales, we expect to have sold out by the end of August, so we recommend to get your orders in quick!

News just in: The Viola was awarded a Bronze Medal at the 2008 San Francisco International Wine Show as well as awarded 3 stars in the current 'Cabernet' issue of Winestate Magazine.

VINE REPLANTING DAY - DATE CHANGE

Saturday, 13th September

Thank you to all our wonderful members who have volunteered to help us with the grand replanting of the Semillon vines later this year. The replanting was originally scheduled for 30th August, however due to Vineyard conditions, the replanting date has now been moved to Saturday, 13th September, subject to final confirmation with vineyard conditions. All other times and details remain the same.

We will be replanting the Semillon rows, adding some Verdelho and planting a large plot of Shiraz. Arrive by 7:00am for coffee and tea and we will finish the day with a rewarding buffet lunch in the Wine Cellar to say 'thanks'.

If you would like to join us for this fun day of replanting OR are unable to attend on the new date, please contact the Vineyard on 07 5543 4011. Please also provide your daytime contact number so that we can confirm the planting day with you.

Seared Ocean Trout fillet on cummin spiced chats with fresh green vegetables topped with red onion and avocado salsa

Next time you check out the platypus at the Vineyard look for the ripples caused by the ocean trout trying to jump into Chef Rob's pan. Topped with avocado and red onion salsa, the dish is the ultimate accolade for ocean trout. Light and refreshing, excellent with the new Lona Sparkling Semillon. The new menu is quite exciting with many Vineyard visits required to taste the mouthwatering delights!

NEW CELLAR DOORS UPDATE

On your next visit to the Sunshine Coast, remember to visit Kim & Michelle at the Yandina Cellar Door, located inside the Ginger Factory. You can enjoy a glass of O'Reilly's wine with your lunch as well as pick up a bottle or two for the rest of your stay.

For Gold Coast locals, the Canungra Cellar Door is now open on Friday nights. Come in for a glass of award-winning O'Reilly's wine and a delicious seafood platter. Meals are served from 6:00pm until 8:00pm, and the Cellar Door is open until 9:00pm.

WINE LAUNCH WRAP

A beautiful sunny day, a great turnout of members and two fantastic wines - what a fantastic way to launch the new 2008 vintages of the Platypus Play Semillon and Vince Reserve Verdelho.

Thank you to all our members who joined us for this great day, including Scott and Nicola Simonds who toasted the new vintages with Peter and Annette O'Reilly (pictured). Highlights of the day were exclusive tastings of the new vintages, plus a cooking demonstration by Chef Rob of his Silky Oak Pork dish from the Winter menu.
