Stinson Walks

All walks depart early on the chosen Saturday morning and arrive back Saturday evening.

Retrace Bernard O'Reilly's famous journey through mountainous rainforest terrain as he searched for the survivors of the ill-fated Stinson plane crash 75 years ago. Experience one of Australia's iconic walks on this rugged yet rewarding journey.

Lamington Eco Challenge

9-10 AUGUST 2014

The 2nd annual Lamington Eco Challenge is a trail running event featuring some tough terrain in the Scenic Rim Hinterland in South East Queensland, including four wheel drive tracks, grassy paddocks, bush and rainforest walking trails as well as having to negotiate creeks, gates, cattle grids and the potential wandering livestock.


The event starts and finishes at O'Reilly's Rainforest Retreat and competitors will have the option of either a 42km Marathon or a 21km Half Marathon distances on one or both days and can also enter as a team.

Leaping Lizards Can Do No Wrong

SATURDAY 4th OCTOBER 2014

After two hugely successful gigs during the year at O'Reilly's, The Leaping Lizards will be returning to O'Reilly's Rainforest Retreat for another concert on the October long weekend. Their uniquely rootsy sound was a big hit with our guests at previous performances. Thus it was an easy decision to re-book the band again to bring down the house. We hope you enjoy some delicious comfort food, O'Reilly's wine, live music and late night bush dancing in the dining room from 6:30pm onwards.

Forest Weekend

31-2 NOVEMBER 2014

Join our visiting experts for an insight into the complex world of the Rainforest. Learn about Lamington's part in the 'Gondwana Rainforests of Australia' World Heritage site and the fascinating features that warrant its inclusion. In the past Forest Weekend guests have joined the likes of Bill McDonald (Queensland Herbarium) to discover the different make-up of trees and leaves within the forest. This years guest speakers combined with legendary O'Reilly's such as Big Pete O'Reilly are sure to provide a insight into the unique flora of the Lamington National Park region. Often combined with the following weeks 'Bird Week' this weekend is suited to all those interested in the flora of the region from novice botanists, students or those that just enjoy being involved and learning about the natural environment.

37th Annual Bird Week

2-9 NOVEMBER 2014

O'Reilly's is excited to announce its 37th Annual Bird Week . This event has become Australia's leading birding event. The 2013 event welcomed a number of guest speakers as well as local guides Tim O'Reilly, Glen Threlfo, Ian Gynther, Bill McDonald and Duncan Fowler.

The program offers ample opportunities to visit all the hot spots and uncover the special birds of Lamington National Park. It really is a bird enthusiast's dream. As we are anticipating 2014 to be even more successful. Please register as soon as possible to ensure you don't miss out. 

NOTE: a registration fee does apply and the Bird Week 2014 program schedule and guest speakers are subject to change.

BONUS: UK Celebrities Bill Oddie (The Goodies, activist, birder, businessman) and Stephen Moss (Documentary producer at BBC Natural History Unit) will be joining us for Annual Bird Week!

Photography Competition 2014

After an overwhelming response, our O'Reilly's judges announced Mark Hanson the winner of the O'Reilly's Annual Photo Comp '13 with his tremendous sunset photo which you can view on our Facebook page. 

Spectacular sunsets over the Macpherson Ranges, wildlife in action and defining 'O'Reilly's' moments - these are the photographs that shaped the first O'Reilly's Photo Comp, from more than 600 entries across a number of countries. 

The Annual Photo Comp '14 will be back again on the 26th November, the category is "up close and personal of flora + fauna". Look out for more details during the next few months and if you stay at O'Reilly's during winter, remember to take some photos and compile them for the competition launch in November!

Lamington Light Photography Weekend

FRIDAY 5-7 DECEMBER 2014

Join experienced photographer and videographer Glen Threlfo and amateur photographer Matt Kelly for a “locals” insight of the best views, wildlife hot spots and natural experiences Lamington National Park has to offer.

Lamington Light is a wonderful opportunity for you to get some great tips from our experts and the workshop also coincides with our annual photo comp, which runs from 26 NOV 2014 - 26 JAN 2015. The theme for this year's competition is "Up close and personal...flora + fauna". So now is the time to start shooting and compiling your entries for the competition launch in November.

Wildlife Week

Our comprehensive program caters for everyone from the novice to those with serious interests in researching threatened species. Wildlife Week is a fantastic chance to discover many of the creatures that inhabit this unique and diverse region combining presentations with plenty of field trips to put new found knowledge into practice.

Autumn Birding Week 2015

From novices to seasoned spotters, birdos to twitchers – they will be nesting at O’Reilly’s Rainforest Retreat in the Gold Coast Hinterland for the annual Autumn Birding Week, Sunday 1st – Friday 6th March 2015. Surrounded by World Heritage listed Lamington National Park, O’Reilly’s is one of Australia’s premier birding destinations. For a bird enthusiast, this means the opportunity to spot a diverse range of species, including a range of raptors, elusive eucalypt forest birds, such as the Glossy Black-Cockatoo and Spotted Quail-thrush, and those that make the coastal swamps and lagoons their home.
